TB Control Consultation

APHA have asked that we draw your attention to the consultation that is currently underway relating to:

·        using the ‘severe’ interpretation for tests involving cattle traced from infected herds

·        better controlling risks posed by inconclusive skin test reactors that resolve on retesting

·        Introducing more controls on the movement of cattle between two TB breakdown herds.

·        Harmonising the scheduling of Short Interval Tests in TB breakdown herds.

·        Re-defining the Edge Area boundaries by incorporating as whole counties those that currently straddle the High Risk and Edge Areas of England

  • extending six-monthly testing or radial testing to all parts of the Edge Area.

More details on this consultation and on how to contribute can be found via this link https://consult.defra.gov.uk/bovine-tb/enhancements-to-hra-edge

APHA also welcome views on two further measures namely:

  • To introduce powers to enforce herd biosecurity measures to reduce TB reinfection risks.
  • To restrict approval of slaughter sales (‘red markets’) of TB-restricted cattle to the HRA and Edge Area.
